What in the world is Good Governance?
6/11/2017 by Andy Winterburgh
In a world where corporate governance is of increasing importance and seems to be rarely out of the headlines, I read with interest the findings from the 3rd annual Good Governance report from the IoD ranking the top 250 UK companies based on their uniquely developed governance indicators.
Developed together with Cass Business School and CQI the 5 indicators of Good Governance have been developed and refined over the 3 reports to give as good an indicator as possible of excellence in Internal Audit. It is perhaps understandable given the indicators and the high level of importance given to external perceptions that external accountability was the key driver of ranking.
While companies outside of financial services are leading the charge, it's great to see financial services are well represented within the top 250 (as well as a number of Hybridge clients represented in the top 10). The IoD maintain that their indicators are open to refinement for future measurement this report encourages organisations to evaluate their audit and risk functions giving them a key role in the legitimate development and growth of business.
If you'd like to discuss the approach the best Internal Audit functions are using to attract and retain top talent, or you're an Internal Audit professional and you'd like to find the best employer to future proof your career get in touch with Hybridge today.
